Open Press Dates! |

Open Press is an opportunity for printmakers who are already familiar with our studio to get some studio time without committing to a monthly membership. Open press rates are $10/hour and we request a 3-hour minimum.
All Open Press times are Saturdays 10:00am-4:00pm

Mixed Media

This class will be limited to 10 students
Saltgrass Printmakers will be offering a beginning class in Mixed Media
Applications in Printmaking using Chine-colle, frottage and trace monotype.
This class will be collage applications of chine-colle as a way to develop innovative,
mixed media approaches in print that utilize layering and color. 'Chine' or Japanese
papers can be employed as a way to layer and veil images, textures, and
surfaces. Frottage is an interesting technique of creating images from the surfaces of
found and created textures. Trace monotype is a fun print method that can utilize simple line drawings to
complex
detailed drawings created on top of frottaged prints.
The class is fourdays - Tuesdays and Thursdays May 19, 21, 26, 28
from 6:00-8:30 pm each evening.

Steamroller Woodcut Demo |

Learn to carve large woodcut plates for printing with the Steamroller!
Saltgrass will be printing with a Steamroller at the 1009 Utah Arts Festival (June 25 - 28, at 2:00 and 6:00 daily). You can be part of the fun! If you bring a woodcut plate to the Arts Festival, you can print it by driving over it with the 1.5 ton Steamroller! In this one-day demo/workshop you will learn how to carve the large plates we use for Steamroller printing so you can carge your own.

Basic Etching with Victoria

Materials Needed: etching needle and burnisher.
Copper and paper will be available for purchase at the shop.
Visiting artist Victoria Goro-Rapoport will teach this course on basic copper etching. Etching is an intaglio method of printmaking in which the image is incised into the surface of a copper plate using ferric chloride. The class will cover the basic plate preparation, simple registration, hard ground application, aquatint, etching, and printing techniques.
