A printmaker can achieve a wide variety of textures and intriguing surface qualities on a copper plate using etching grounds. In this workshop, participants will gain experience with a variety of traditional and less toxic contemporary ground applications.
On January 16th, come prepared to work on several 5” x 6” sample plates. We will provide the supplies and materials for soft ground, white ground, sugar lift, crackle ground, marble ground, etc for you to experiment with. Having sparked your imagination, we’ll reserve January 23rd as an individual working session continuing with the sample plates or developing a larger 9”x 12” etching plate.
Skill Level: Intermediate. This workshop will introduce advanced etching techniques so a basic etching experience is necessary.
Dates: Saturdays, January 16 and 23rd.
Time: 11:00 am to 3:00 pm

What to Bring with You: Your personal etching tools (Etching needle, burnisher, and scraper), notebook, working gloves ~ both for handling the ferric chloride and solvents and for wiping your plates.
